Do I have to write both fiction and poetry?

In our non-dedicated Level 1 courses, we teach techniques that are relevant to fiction and creative nonfiction writers and poets and we look at examples from all three forms.

But if you're a poet and you know it, you're welcome to stick to writing poetry (or pick a poetry specific course to start with). Likewise, if your sole interest is fiction or creative nonfiction, by all means, stick to that.

We just encourage you to keep an open mind; experimentation is a great way to spark creativity.
